These methods are basically divided into two groups.
1. Treatments that insert a thick needle and remove fibroadenomas from the breast as a whole or by breaking them apart (BLES, Vacuum Biopsy System).
BLES is the short form of the English term “Breast Lesion Excision System”. In BLES, after local anesthesia, a special needle with wires cutting the tissue with radiofrequency is used to reach the edge of the fibroadenoma under sonography guidance. The wires coming out of the needle burn the tissue around the fibroadenoma with radiofrequency, separate the fibroadenoma from its surroundings and surround it. It is cut and wrapped in a wire mesh and taken out in one piece. With this procedure, which takes a few minutes, the fibroadenoma can be completely removed, as in a surgical operation. Fibroadenomas up to 2.5 cm in diameter can be completely removed with this method.

Vacuum biopsy system is a method that has been used percutaneously in the breast for years when a large amount of biopsy material is required. In this system, after entering the area to be biopsied with a thick needle, the tissue is vacuumed into the needle and cut with a rotating blade system. The cut pieces are sucked out through the needle. This process can be repeated continuously without removing the needle from the breast. The Sonography-guided Vacuum Biopsy System has been used successfully in the treatment of fibroadenomas (by removing large amounts of piecemeal tissue). Fibroadenomas up to 4 cm in size can be completely removed with this method under local anesthesia.

2. Treatments that destroy fibroadenomas above the skin in the breast, disrupt their development and shrink them (Cryoablation, Laser Ablation, Ablation with sound wave (echotherapy),

In ablation with sound waves (echotherapy), high-energy, focused, repetitive sound waves are sent to the fibroadenoma targeted by sonography, causing the fibroadenoma to lose its vitality. This procedure is performed entirely on the skin and the patient is not given even a single injection.

In cryoablation and laser ablation, a special needle (probe) is inserted into the middle of the fibroadenoma by entering the skin with a needle under local anesthesia and ultrasound guidance. Then, the fibroadenoma is destroyed by freezing (cryoablation) or burning (laser ablation) using this needle. Fibroadenoma, which loses its vitality, shrinks over time.
