Mammography is a method that allows the early detection of breast cancer by taking x-rays of the breast. This method involves taking x-rays of all women over a certain age, in an effort to detect breast cancer at an early stage. Mammography, which allows for breast cancer screening in the community, is called screening mammography.
Screening mammography is the most widely used early diagnosis method for breast cancer worldwide. Annual mammography is recommended for every woman over the age of 40 until the age of 70. In high-risk cases, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging can be added to the screening process.
