Does mammography detect all breast cancers?

Unfortunately, no. Mammography can miss some breast cancers, even under optimal conditions, due to factors related to the structure of the breast or the cancer itself.

To reduce the rate of oversight, in cases of densely fibrocystic breasts, tomosynthesis mammography and sonography are performed in addition to mammography.

The likelihood of missing breast cancer is significantly reduced with combined tomosynthesis and sonography.
