There is no obstacle to mammography in patients with silicone implants. Light compression during mammography does not pose any risks to the implant. Please inform the technician performing the mammography that you have a silicone implant so that fine adjustments in dosage and positioning can be made to your implant. Due to its dense structure, silicone can partially limit the visualization of some areas of the breast. For patients with silicone implants, an ultrasound should be performed in conjunction with a mammogram. Ultrasonography will reduce the risk of blind spots in the breast and better monitor the integrity of the silicone implant. Women with silicone implants should have annual screening mammograms and sonograms, as is the case for all women.
